For those of you who have been following for a while you will know for many years I have been a keen supporter of the cadet forces. Originally I offered my skills to the Army Cadet Force and after 4 happy years decided it was time to move. I joined the Air Training Corps (ATC) about 2 years ago and have been working ever since to re-earn my Sergeant stripes, something I finally achieved this week.
Its been a long old process, certainly the hardest ‘job interview’ I have ever had, particularly when you consider it is a voluntary role! The final piece of the puzzle was attending the Senior NCO staff initial course (SSIC) up at RAF College Cranwell. The course itself is incredible and focuses on leadership, management and training techniques. I took on an incredible amount of information in the 5 days I was there.
Getting involved with organisations like the Air Cadets is a win win for everybody. Not only have I learnt valuable skills myself, but I’ve been able to give back with my prior knowledge of training and of course my photography and I.T skills to put together their new website www.457squadronatc.org.uk. If you find yourself at a loose end, there are a lot worse ways you can spend your time!
